Gifted & Talented Development

Dear Parents,

First and foremost, let me extend a heartfelt welcome to you and your child to J.W. Dobbs Elementary’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. I am Dr. Smith, a veteran educator with over 15 years of experience teaching Gifted and Talented students in the Middle and Elementary School settings. I am excited about having the opportunity to collaborate with you and our scholars.

The Gifted and Talented program will provide scholars with cross-curriculum real world experiences. This 2025-2026 school year, I look forward to stimulating young minds by providing a classroom environment filled with innovation, learning, and productivity. This will be achieved by engaging scholars in lessons, activities, and field trips that promote creativity and higher order thinking. Activities will be interactive, performance-based, and an authentic representation of our scholar’s talents.

  • As we begin this journey of exploratory learning, I’d like to share my expectations for our exceptional scholars, which go beyond the regular school rules:
  • Follow directions and all school rules
  • Come to class prepared with needed materials and completed assignments
  • Active on task participation in all classes (Gifted, Core & Specials)
  • Show courtesy and respect to teachers, classmates, and self
  • Maintain an A/B average in all subjects
  • Uphold exemplary behavior in class, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and on field trips
  • Participate willingly in school, District, and National competitions
  • Develop advanced communication, research, and leadership skills

I am thrilled about this year. Gifted education is all about endless possibilities. I'm privileged to work with the brightest minds here at J.W. Dobbs Elementary!

Let's make this year unforgettable for our gifted learners! If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to reach out using the following:
