Parent’s Right to Request a Teacher’s and a Paraprofessional’s Qualification Notification

Dear Parents,

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Students Succeeds Act, Atlanta Public Schools would like to inform you that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) and/or paraprofessional(s). The following information may be requested:

  • Whether the student’s teacher—
    • has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
    • is teaching under emergency or another provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
    • is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

J.W. Dobbs Elementary is Branching Out!

J.W. Dobbs will take the following measures to support parents as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals.

We will:

  • Ensure that all information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is posted on the school’s website, posted on the school’s marquee as well as robo calls, and class dojo.
  • Conduct meetings on parental engagement practices and effective strategies for staff to communicate and build partnerships with parents and ideas to increase family engagement.
  • Partner with head Start and Early Learning Programs by conducting joint staff meetings for parents and sending school information about parent engagement activities to help prepare parents and their child(ren) for kindergarten and improve school transition.
  • Share information through conferences and on the website for parents to understand the school’s academic standards and assessments as well as the ways parents can monitor their child(ren) progress and work with educators.
  • Communicate with all families and the community on a regular basis regarding school-wide events and activities, through phone messages, social media , and flyers.
  • Work with our parents to develop relevant trainings and helpful presentations to educate our staff on the importance of parental engagement.
  • Provide necessary materials and handouts for parents at conferences, meetings, and activities to help parents work with child(ren) to improve academic achievement.
